01 · YOUR FACE

6 STEPS8 MIN

Go slower than feels necessary and use less product than you think. Barbers build a style in small passes, checking the mirror between each one. It is always easier to add than to undo.

Then work a leave-in conditioner through the mid-lengths and ends. Damp means towel-dried, around 80 percent dry with no drips. Product grips and spreads evenly at this stage: soaking-wet hair dilutes everything you apply, and bone-dry hair refuses to reshape.

A pre-styler is your base coat: it adds grip and body and shields the hair before any heat touches it. Spread a small amount evenly from roots to ends with your fingers. You should feel light hold, never stiffness.

Use your fingertips, not a comb. Pinch and twist small sections so light catches separated pieces instead of one solid block. This is the move that makes a cut look effortless.

Or use a low-heat diffuser while shaking the roots for volume. Cup sections into the diffuser and hold them up at the roots a few seconds at a time. Low speed, medium heat, and zero raking with your fingers.

Never the roots. Emulsify first: rub the product between your palms a few seconds until it almost disappears, then work it through in one smooth pass from back to front. Start with less than you think you need.

06 · PRODUCTS YOU NEED

Four things. Nothing else.

The product set: a jar of wax, a leave-in conditioner and a sea salt spray

07 · NEXT TRIM

Book it before you leave the chair.

Hair Flow

Every 6 to 8 weeks

A grown-out cut keeps its shape longer. Any later and the blend on the sides turns into a step.
